In the spirit of trends and arousing the nostalgia in you I am writing this article following the #10yearchallenge in music. Since we just got into 2019 I’ll do 2008 vs 2018.
I was around ten, twelve years old then but the memory is still sharp.
T.I released his album(Paper trail) and it had bangers that we could not stop singing the hook on live your life by Rihanna.
“You are gonna be a shining star, fancy car fancy clothes…Live your life”
10 years later we got The amazing Mr F**k Up showing you gotta slow down on that extravagant life you living.
Kanye released 808’s in 2008. Ye in 2018. If the sound differences between these two projects show you how much 10 years actually is then I don’t know what will. From addressing the world and opening up thoughts and possibilities. To defending yourself and your actions with music and tweets
10 years ago T Pain was still a vibe and and he had girls going low. This was just before the Death of Auto Tune. 2018 T Pain is making Everything go by releasing all his unreleased old music. Turns out he has actual bars when you make him stand with some of this bubble gum rap
TO show how much of a don Lil Wayne is A Milli 2008, Monalisa 2018. There’s really nothing more to say. It’s interesting how it took 10 years to move up by 2 Carter albums
Lady Gaga was just a singer…2018 then bam she is an actress in one of the hottest movies of the year. SHe now has acting and singing paparazzi
In 2008 rap legend Nas was still trying to be relevant when he released Untitled. In 2018 Nas is still trying with Nasir. As the world moves from the meaning of the lyrics to how well the words flow with the beat. Who knows for how long he’ll keep trying.
Rappers became less and trappers became more. The Pliers were put back in the toolbox(see what I did there). We got the Post and we liked it. For some reason, no one wants to be a grown up with the number of “lil” and “youngs” in the rap game getting more and more.
I would have loved to go through everything album by album. If you have any other good comparisons hit the comment section.
We like 2018 music but the comment it was better then, is always there. There’s just so much variety these days as compared to back then and music is music. I should be able to like 2018 Kanye and not be judged for not liking legends like Nas. If trap is me let it be. It’s been 10 years of music. Amazing rap/trap/hip hop music. There’s only one thing to say after all this.,GIVE US MORE!!!
