Here’s a song I wish I had in my playlist last summer; music had departed from me. There were songs about everything imaginable, everything but a longing heart. No one really got me, and I’m not being dramatic when I say all this. However, this was last summer; and though I still long after her, the sadness is now a thing of the past and this song couldn’t have come at a better time. And no, the song is not as dark as that summer, in fact, it’s at the opposite end of the emotion spectrum. “1700 Waiting” is as bubbly as it gets, maybe too bubbly, considering the underlying sadness of not being with the one your heart longs after.
Ishan and Tamy have been doing exceptionally well this year and I wouldn’t have chosen any other pair if I were DJ Chrxn.
This song is like a car, and you and I are riding shotgun while Tamy and Ishan alternate on the wheel. DJ Chrxn is obviously the engine, essential for any motion whatsoever. On the first verse, Ishan does not waste any time; he takes us from 0 to 100 instantly (not that we’re complaining); his vocals are superior and unclouded! And a moment definitely worth writing home about is when almost every instrument has been stripped away at the bridge and you can hear him lament pellucidly. It’s like the windows have been cracked open in our 1700-Waiting-car and we’re immediately stimulated to interact with our inner melancholy. Tamy snatches the wheel on the second verse and she does it with finesse. Her vocals are rich as always (but we’re mostly crushing over her high notes on the outro).
The instrumental was obviously adequate, but still, we’re a bit let down by not getting a major beat drop at the chorus (we’ll take the guitar is a good compensation).
So without saying much (its the chorus all over again), this song is what you need!
