Imagine a world without The Seven Wonders or a world without the Big Five; ladies and gentleman the stakes have never been higher, and personally I am petrified by the whole concept of it being a possibility. It is not every day that you hear a song about the environment and wildlife (especially one that actually sounds good), but then again this song carries a long overdue and relevant message; we have got to be more sustainable as a species.
Our survival depends on it!
Before this begins to sound too National-Geographic-y, let’s address how the song actually sounds. Firstly, it is easily appreciable that this song was not just produced on some laptop, in some garage; the instrumental proficiency portrayed in this song is unparalleled. In fact, the name Sylent Nqo has become synonymous with the term “musical adept”. One gratifying thing about “Vakuruwe” is that it sounds so cultural with that easy on the ear Zimbabwean sound (the Zimbo in me is jumping).
I know what most of you are already thinking, you’re thinking about how you’ll only be able to play this song at some Save-Earth-Summit; be assured that it is not the case with “Vakuruwe”.
