Anita Jaxson and Poptain’s “Fire” is the kind of song that enhances competition within dancehall circles, and essentially promotes the much-needed innovation and creativity. Because in all honesty, this country as a whole has not done justice to the Dancehall culture, which when simply put, is a bottomless well of solid vibes. The culture has been watered down by years and years of artists recycling the same instrumental from Brick and Lace’s “Love is Wicked”. And we just stood and watched, and applauded them for it.
Fortunately, this duo brings to the scene a sizeable contribution, in the form of this international standard joint; in which they both, undeniably come through immensely.
Dancehall has always been for the dance floor, and that’s precisely where “Fire” belongs with its pounding bass. However, a concern one might have is that the song lacks that rustic feel that makes every song of the genre relatable, especially here in Zimbabwe. But then again, why complicate things when the song’s beyond passable!
