Functionally and musically, ‘Taking Over’ is Marcia’s official debut and her leap from obscure projects that may or may not be found on the internet. The song is a cool decluttered calming Afrobeats ballad with a production that severely conforms to the genre.
Without sacrificing much of her edge, Marcia describes a form of mental and emotional invasion, a welcome sought-after kind of invasion that can only be undertaken by one person. True to the premise, the song is about surrender and love and hope, particularly hoping that the inevitable end turns out to be very much evitable.
Taking Over is obviously a beyond-passable tune, but to categorize it as memorable would be to overstate things. The song is as direct and uncomplicated as it is very prone to drowning in obscurity. (But an emphasis on ‘beyond-passable’).
Passionate about innumerable things in life with photography, animals and music being just some of them. I have a knack for socialising and convincing people to try new music as I enjoy (almost) every genre. “Music is the epitome of all arts, and so we listen!”
