It is a good thing that we’re not gathered here today to argue about the concept of love-induced insomnia, whether it is a myth or an actual thing. We’ll take Mr Putiti’s word for it; love can snatch the sleep right from your eyes. Period.
We are gathered here today to celebrate growth and progression; King 98’s gracious glow up in the Zimbabwean music scene. Most things about this song are just right; the instrumental is bouncy and groovy like a drive-in movie (just the way we like our music these days) and the chorus is uncomplicated (in a good way). Bouncy waves and a slapping bass are always well appreciated. The general vibe of this song chilled, maybe a bit too chilled, but it definitely qualifies as one of those songs you wouldn’t mind on an easy Sunday morning (mostly because of the instrumental – major shout out to DJ Tamuka). King 98’s rap as he expresses the significance of kusvitsa shoko is definitely beyond passable, thanks to the second verse (in major part).
In comparison with the other songs from Francesca, “Shoko” definitely came through immensely. It is definitely among the best songs from the album. The easy going song is very relatable (am I right, guys?) and that’s another bonus point.
To sum this up, “Shoko” is generally a good song, although it kinda feels like they held back on us on this one.
